Leash Pressure - Light and Steady!
If you’re using your leash to move your dog, think of it as a gentle guide rather than a pull. Hold the leash as you’d hold a champagne glass - one or two fingers and a thumb. Apply just enough pressure so your dog can feel it, and hold steady. When they move at all, mark yes! and release the pressure. The leash should be just a cue to move, rather than having to physically drag your dog. We want them to know how to follow the leash using their own muscles to move. This will be useful for guiding them to heel position at your side, up onto logs/rocks, into a sit or a down, into the car, etc. with more cooperation and less frustration.
